Sumario:This doctoral thesis called ‘The audiovisual translation of crime series: a genre approach’ has the objective of conducting an in-depth study of the audiovisual translation of crime fiction, with the objective of gaining a greater understanding of it, due to the lack of research that has been devoted to this matter. To achieve this, an examination is carried out on the translation of this genre, with a comparative analysis between crime and comedy genres.The selected corpus for this thesis is made of two American TV series: Wicked City, a crime drama, and Crowded, a comedy. The analysis comprises both quantitative and qualitative approaches, thus providing a deeper exploration of the subject matter. The first part of the analysis includes a study of the typical characteristics of the crime genre, as well as the linguistic and technical constraints that shape its audiovisual translation.
