The first normative regulations related to the working time were based on the limitation of the working day as a security and health measure. Later, working time was a matter of concern as it was considered as a scarce good that could be limited to distribute the work and reduce unemployment rates. Recently, the concern about working time lies in its qualitative aspect, that is to say, the management of the working time to adapt itself to the productive changes and the requirements of a globalized economy.Con el presente estudio se pretende ofrecer una visión sobre la evolución en la gestión del tiempo de trabajo. Las primeras regulaciones normativas en relación con el tiempo de trabajo se basaban en la limitación de la jornada como medida de seguridad y salud. Más adelante, el tiempo de trabajo fue objeto de preocupación, por considerarse éste como un bien escaso susceptible de ser limitado para así repartir el trabajo y disminuir las tasas de paro.
