| Sumario: | In 1614, César Oudin, lexicographer, grammar, interpreter and translator of Italian, Spanish and German, made the first French translation of the first part of Cervantes' novel, Don Quixote de la Mancha (1605). For this, Oudin (1560-1625), used his Treasury of the two Spanish and French languages (1607), the first dictionary of the Spanish language, Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española (1611) Sebastian de Covarrubias Orozco and the Thresor de la langue françoyse tant ancienne que moderne (1606) by Jean Nicot, first bilingual dictionary: Latin-French. The critical analysis of the chivalric’s lexicon of Don Quixote and of tillage, with his squire Sancho Panza, translated into French, is the subject of the paper, in which is analyzed the challenge of translating them at that time. More specifically, the article consists of a compilation of the chivalric and tillage’s terms contained in the first part of the novel, together with the definitions collected from them in the Oudin Dictionary. A critical analysis of the translated words is then carried out, which will make it possible if the result was logical or not. |
