| Sumario: | [eng] Attempts to formulate a plausible explanation of how Coves del Drac has been originated date back to the 19th century, becoming a particularly controversial subject after the explorations of Édouard-Alfred Martel in 1896, who enunciated a genetic explanation linked to the erosive action of marine waters. Th e subsequent evolution of knowledge about the cave has radically changed these previous interpretations, being useful and convenient to carry out now an updated review of the speleogenetic ideas that have been formulated in this regard. Th e current vision on the formation of this outstanding cavern has been benefi ted by the important recent underwater discoveries, which have allowed the realization of a detailed morphometric analysis. Th e explanation about the genesis of the cave is today placed in a context of littoral eogenetic karstifi cation of the upper Miocene rocks, where a possible hypogenic basal recharge is added to the involvement of geochemical processes occurring in the coastal mixing zone. Th e glacioeustatic fl uctuations of the sea level and the relevance of breakdown mechanisms are signifi cant factors in order to characterize the morphogenic features of this important cave system. |
