Descripción
Sumario:[eng] In this paper a careful review of the historical data related to the knowledge of Coves del Drac is performed, dealing as well with the conditioning and exploitation tasks related to the tourist visit of the cave; in this respect, all along the 20th century this cave will become one of the main tourist attractions in Mallorca, being today the most visited show cave in Europe. Th e most ancient unequivocal references to the cave belong to the last years of 16th century, although its frequentation is immemorial going back to the prehistoric times. At the end of the 19th century the cave became increasingly famous, thanks to the disclosure of its natural values by the Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria; under his patronage was promoted the realization in 1880 of the fi rst topographic survey of the cave, drawn by Friedrich Will, as well as the remarkable explorations and discoveries made by Édouard Alfred Martel in 1896. During the 20th century is when most of the contributions to the naturalistic and scientifi c knowledge of the Coves del Drac took place, contributions that intensify the last decades until today. In addition to reviewing its main historical aspects, an exhaustive bibliographical analysis of the numerous references to this important cave is carried out.
