| Resumo: | [EN] In Spain, there are a lot of recreational cyclists who use two lane rural roads, either for leisure or for sporting purposes, and year after year still growing. This increase generates conditions in road facilities, both in terms of road safety and operation, causing an increase in accidents on our roads. Knowing the behavior of the different users in this type of road, in conditions of shared traffic, can provide information on the perception of the risk associated to this interaction and on the aspects of security linked to its circulation by road. This Final Master's Thesis describes the methodology and results obtained through an online survey of cyclists and motor vehicle drivers nationwide. The purpose of this survey is to study the effects caused by the presence of cyclists on conventional roads, circulating individually or in groups. To this end, the survey is organized in several sections that include general questions, about the profile of users or knowledge of traffic regulations, as well as other more specific questions aimed at knowing the perception of risk that they have on certain aspects, possible measures that could improve the roads and their preferences on the specific design of these. The survey was answered by a total of 547 cyclists, most of whom used road bikes, and 427 drivers, highlighting that more than half use bicycles on a regular basis. About 70% of the users, both cyclists and drivers, consider the lateral safety distance of 1,50 m as sufficient. With regard to the proposed measures, cyclists believe that a wider shoulder would be a good option to improve the coexistence between cyclists and vehicles, while for the drivers the adjacent bike lanes would be better considered. In relation to these responses, the preference for the design of the roads by both groups is to design sections that allow segregated bike lanes in independent service routes, improving the interaction greatly from the security point of view. Once the data obtained from the survey has been analyzed, it is possible to propose measures to the traffic management entities, in such a way that it can be intervened on the roads where there is greater demand for cyclists. In this project some of these proposals are included and a series of solutions are proposed for a concrete stretch of road, with high intensity of cyclists, with the aim of improving the coexistence between the different types of users. |
