Descripción
Sumario:The article published by the Journal of Social Education ( RES) is based on a study carried out by the postgraduate course of University Specialist in Intercultural Medication and Interpretation in the health field during the year 2009-2010 in which students will do an internship in hospitals and health centers in Lorca ( Murcia). Thus, this course is carried out by the University of Murcia and has the collaboration of the Department of Social Services, Family Care, Immigration Training and Employment of the City of Lorca. According to this article, the project carried out was aimed at preparing these students as "intercultural mediators" and future "interpreters" in the health field and also an effective incorporation into the "world of work". An important fact to note is that in the municipality of Lorca the number of immigrants living in this city is considerable. For this reason, this course will pioneer and interdisciplinary an intercultural training program for the first time in the Region of Murcia. This intercultural training program consists of: "sessions on immigration and public health services, translation and interpretation in the biosanitary field, intercultural communication and mediation, health and disease in the cultures of the world, techniques and protocols for action and mediation in health care, the health system in the Region of Murcia." The main objective of the intercultural training program created in the Region of Murcia was to draw a bridge between training and the world of work. It is essential to highlight that this program seeks to define and limit the figure of the "mediator" so that his work is effective and professional, paving the way for possible programs in the future. My involvement in this project consists of evaluating the usefulness of this program and considering that there are aspects that can be improved taking into account population changes, as well as social changes in the last five years. Therefore, my study will critically assess the positive and negative aspects of this cross-cultural training program. In addition, I will carry out quantitative and qualitative comparisons with other articles that have carried out potential programs on the figure of the intercultural mediator. The hypothesis would be whether it is important to raise awareness and prepare future cultural mediators and interpreters in advance so that their work is effective in today's multicultural environments. There is a positive relationship between the preparation of future mediators and interpreters and their effectiveness and efficacy in the work environment. The figure of the intercultural mediator and interpreter is essential to achieve equitable access to healthcare for the vulnerable immigrant population. Its functions are not only limited to solving linguistic problems, but it also builds a communication channel between different cultures. As I mentioned earlier, this project is based on a critical analysis of the positive and negative aspects of the intercultural training program of the Region of Murcia. In turn, I will carry out comparisons with other articles which have made intercultural training programs on the role that the intercultural mediator will play. As for its implementation, it would be creating awareness strategies, promoting understanding between the patient and the health professional and correcting perceptions and false information that can lead to misunderstandings leading to conflicts However, to answer this hypothesis we will deal with the following points, starting with the theoretical framework: - Cultural competence in healthcare - Impact of cultural competence in health care. - Cultural competency models and approaches For the methodology section, I will highlight the following points, key to understanding how a program works and how its contribution can be fundamental, educational and formative for future intercultural mediators and interpreters: - Methodology of the discipline - Methodology of my project (creation of a cross-cultural training model based on the studies analyzed). - The purpose and design of training models for interpreters in healthcare settings. - Data analysis - Assessment on the results collected in healthcare. - Resources and materials : - Journal articles from different universities, information from workshops in hospitals (Red Cross), and a model of administrative documents (applying for a health card) in the healthcare setting. - Articles from magazines from different universities, information from workshops in hospitals (Red Cross), and administrative texts. Finally, we will focus on the discussion in which we will highlight the effectiveness of the program, that is, if it has been effective and useful. Finally, we will make an improvement plan section, in which I will integrate my own updated intercultural training program with its improvements for healthcare professionals and a survey prototype made through Microsoft Forms. This project and other future projects will improve the figure of the intercultural mediator/ interpreter, opening a path towards the professionalization and training of these to compensate for the possible inadequacies of health professionals. All this will help the professional understand and respect the mentality of their patients despite not sharing the same cultural approach.
