| Sumario: | Objective - The objective of this article was to analyze the challenges and opportunities of “Desbrave Chapecó”, a rural tourism initiative in the city of Chapecó/SC. Design/methodology/approach – In methodological terms, the study is characterized by a qualitative approach. Data collection in the research field was carried out through semi-structured interviews, field diary entries and photographic interventions, which were carried out between November 2023 and February 2024 in the eight project ventures. Results – Among the main results are the appreciation of local institutions regarding the organization of the project, the collective, but mainly the marketing actions of the ventures that boosted consumer demand. Recognition was found for the investments made in signage through signs near each establishment. Likewise, there are notes that indicate the need for external infrastructure, such as road conditions, garbage collection, quality of the internet connection and access to three-phase power. Limitations/implications of the research - It is considered that in the case studied, despite presenting great potential, there is still a lack of public policies to strengthen it, especially for those entrepreneurs originating from family farming who have difficulty making investments on their own or through the banking system. Practical implications – Among the main challenges are the attention of the local government, through improvements in infrastructure, in addition to the need for communication actions that can effectively publicize “Desbrave Chapecó”. Originality/value – The research highlights the importance of tourism for the diversification of family farming and rural tourism, as it brings up for debate challenges that can enhance the rural environment. |
