Sumario:Religions are part of human subjectivity and as such, they have played and continue to play a powerful role in society. Diversity and syncretism, striking characteristics in the Brazilian religious field, have not been a factor preventing the occurrence of episodes of intolerance that have become increasingly recurrent and as main targets, religions of African origin, respectively, Umbanda and Candomblé. Regarding religions of African origin, the expression religious intolerance no longer encompasses violence directed at these groups, and the expression that encompasses all this violence is religious racism, which will provide an outlet and explanation for this scenario. In this sense, this article presents as a guiding question: How Information Literacy and Religious Literacy can contribute to understanding this current scenario of violence against religions of African origin? To this end, qualitative research was carried out, of a bibliographic and exploratory nature. By considering the critical analysis of episodes involving religious issues, the internal diversity of religions, context, knowledge and other factors, the implementation of studies on Information Literacy and Religious literacy can bring positive contributions to the Brazilian religious field. Access to information from a safe and ethical source can shed light not only on the origin and formation of the Brazilian religious field, but also on the origin of the process of intolerance and religious racism, contributing to critical and ethical reflection.
