Descrição
Resumo:From a psychological conflict resolution perspective, more precisely, from a cognitive approach to the construction of incompatibilities in interests and/or values (Deutsch, 1973; Deutsch and Coleman, 2000), a look is taken at what conflict psychology can tell us aboutthe role of cultural differences in some confl icts dynamics. Cultures are first reference in people´s identity. Cultural differences can be a source of conflicts, and in every case cultural differences could contribute to escalation of conflict. Communication is the frst tool for constructive conflict transformation, (through negotiation between parties, a third party mediation, etc). Intercultural communication presents particular difficulties whichare discussed in these pages, and if taken for granted or even ignored, may even block any resolution process.
