These include the political economy that disputes the representation of its verbal culture. Contrasting different antagonistic political postures, regarding, among others, conflicting ethnographic or linguistic analyses, this allows highlighting divergent interpretations of the same facts by linguists and anthropologists vis-à-vis speakers own interpretations. All this encompasses uses, ideologies and language policies in diachronic as well as synchronic perspec- tives in Nahuatl written and oral forms.Este ensayo analiza de manera sucinta una serie de temas sociolingüísticos relacionados con el uso del náhuatl, sobre  todo en sus aspectos políticos, ideológicos y pragmáticos. Según el texto, la economía política del náhuatl conlleva una disputa en torno a las políticas de representación de la cultura verbal de dicho idioma.
