Sumario:The aim of this worn is to analyze the elections for governor of the province of Mendoza in 1873 —which account for a division of elites almost unheard since 1852— in order to show the strategies used by the leaders in their quest for victory. Starting from a review of the rules and a description of the facts, are then analyzed the representations and practices organized by the government sector as well as the opposition, postulating that was the possibility or not to control the state apparatus and the associated resources, which conditioned the strategies used by each of the fractions in dispute.
