Sumario:In a breeding program it is important to take into account the knowledge of genetic parameters such as combinatorial aptitude as well as the heterotic effects of characters of economic interest. The jamaica (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) is an alternative crop in our state little studied in the genetic aspect, the purpose of the present investigation was to estimate the genetic and heterotic effects of characters of agronomic interest associated with the yield and quality in the culture, and from these, infer about the methods of genetic improvement more appropriate for this species. The study was conducted in the municipality of Xalisco, Nayarit on the Agricultural Academic Unit. The three varieties commonly used in the state of Nayarit were used as progenitors, these being the Chinese, Queen and Creole varieties of Huajicori.
