| Resumo: | Transport and local economic development are forms in which the economy has considered space and territory as a fundamental form of organisation associated with the expansion of services. In the case of the city of Tepic, its public transport system has been the product of an improvised evolution, where the concessions granted have not followed a transport project, which has repercussions not only on the transport user, but also on the businessmen or concessionaires and on the image offered by the historic centre of the city of Tepic. In order to know the preferences of the users, an Origin-Destination type survey is applied, which reveals the patterns of behaviour of the demand, constructing a matrix with the variables; on the supply side, the situation is not very encouraging, due to unfair competition between routes, the omission of the authorities for the application of laws and regulations, the increase in gasoline prices and spare parts, the governmental tariff control, some routes become practically inexpensive, which results in totally depreciated units and not suitable for the service. The negative externalities of transport have led the historic center of the city of Tepic to a situation of road chaos, also considering the general poor state of the city's road infrastructure, so it should be considered to develop a long-term strategic transport plan, according to new technologies and allow a more sustainable public transport that impacts on improving the quality of life of the city of Tepic. |
