description [ENG] During the past few years, studies concerned with sediments in littoral underwater caves have experienced a huge growth because the development of cave-diving exploration and dating techniques. Coves del Drac (Mallorca, Western Mediterranean), which are one of the most relevant karstic system of the island of Mallorca, develop on Upper Miocene carbonate rocks cropping out along the east coast of Mallorca. Recent speleodiving surveys provide new opportunities to deep in the knowledge of the cave and specifi cally this work deals with the sediments accumulated along the underwater galleries and chambers. Th is study shows the physico-chemical analysis of 19 sediment samples taken from diff erent areas along the cave. Four major sedimentary facies have been obtained by means of statistical treatment of physico-chemical data. Th ere are two carbonate facies, ranging in grain size from silt to fi nd sand. Th e fi rst one relates with calcite rafts crystals derived from the chemical precipitation at the air-water interface, and the second one with the accumulation of carbonate grains as a product of cave rock wall granular disintegration. On the other hand, there are other two facies with heterogeneous mineralogy and grain size, but with a distinctive feature such as the presence of oxides and siliceous materials and a decline in clay content. Th ese facies are mainly related to sediment transport processes triggered by water infi ltration inside the cave system. From a spatial point of view all the sedimentary processes and mechanism account all around the cave but with diff erent degrees; therefore, very often it is not easy distinguishing between the diff erent facies. Otherwise the characterized sediments resemble or are very similar to those from other coastal karst caves of eastern Mallorca.

Otherwise the characterized sediments resemble or are very similar to those from other coastal karst caves of eastern Mallorca.[CAT] Durant els últims anys, els estudis sobre sediments en coves subaquàtiques litorals han experimentat un gran creixement degut al desenvolupament de tècniques d’espeleobusseig i de datació. Les coves del Drac (Mallorca, Mediterrània occidental), que són un dels sistemes càrstics més rellevants de l’illa de Mallorca, es desenvolupen en les roques carbonatades del miocè superior que es troben al llarg de la costa est de Mallorca. Les recents descobertes subaquàtiques proporcionen noves oportunitats per aprofundir en el coneixement de la cova i específi cament aquest treball s’ocupa dels sediments acumulats al llarg de les galeries i sales sotaiguades. Aquest estudi mostra l’anàlisi físico-química de 19 mostres de sediment preses en diferents àrees al llarg de la cova. S’han distingit quatre fàcies sedimentàries importants mitjançant el tractament estadístic de les dades físico-químiques. Hi ha dues fàcies carbonatades, amb una mida de gra entre els llims i les arenes. La primera es relaciona amb els cristalls de calcita fl otant derivats de la precipitació química produïda en la interfase aire-aigua, i la segona amb l’acumulació de grans de carbonat com a producte de la desintegració granular de la roca encaixant. D’altra banda, hi ha altres dues fàcies amb una mineralogia i mida de gra heterogènia, però amb una característica distintiva com és la presència d’òxids, materials silicis i una disminució en el contingut d’argila. Aquestes fàcies es relacionen principalment amb els processos de transport de sediments desencadenats per la infi ltració d’aigua dins del sistema subterrani. Des d’un punt de vista espacial tots els processos i mecanismes sedimentaris actuen a tot el sistema, però amb diferents graus; per tant, molt sovint no és fàcil distingir entre les diferents fàcies.
