| Sumario: | This paper focuses on the terminology employed in reference to indigenous costume items in the Relaciones geográficas from sixteenth-century in Mexico. Through it is shown, what kind of vocabulary was used to refer to indigenous apparel, with a special attention on the expressions originating in Nahuatl as well as discursive contexts in which these terms appear. Furthermore, it discusses the parameters of cross-cultural transfer between Spanish and Nahuatl that can be identified through the study of these lexical data. |
