| Sumario: | Based on recent research on the teaching of Historical Linguistics (HL) and ofthe teachingo/History o/English in particular, in Departments of English in Spain, the aim of this article is to provide sorne insights in to the role of HL in the university currículum. HL is central to current linguistics research, as shown by the number and quality of recent publications in the .field However, we feel that there has not been much discussion on the teaching of HL in the academic milieu. Few studies have been conducted in this respect, and in this article we would like to follow up the ideas presented and discussed at the Seminar Applying Historical Linguistics, at the ESSSE/ 4 Conference held in Debrecen (Hungary) in 1997. |
