It also contains the first edition of Sand’s earliest preserved letter and points to previously unnoticed material related to his translation of the Philosophical Transactions. Sand is a relevant but neglected figure of the late seventeenth-century Republic of Letters. He was born in Königsberg, studied at the university of his native city and in Oxford, and then he established himself in Amsterdam as a proofreader and as independent writer of controversial books on theology and Church history.
