The objective of this article is to contextualize, justify and explain the workshop "Getting to know athletes with intellectual disabilities". The workshop has been justified as a proposal to rethink the theory of direct contact in the training of pre-service teachers. As a preliminary evaluation, the perception data of 118 students (77 girls and 41 boys) of the degrees in teacher in early childhood and primary education are also included, after their participation in one of the six sessions of the workshop developed together with 42 athletes with intellectual disabilities (24 boys and 18 girls). The results show that future teachers value the usefulness of the workshop for the development of positive attitudes towards disability. It is suggested that this strategy be used as a starting point in broader training programmes, including other strategies aimed at deepening the development and improvement of teaching skills.La formación del futuro profesorado es un elemento clave para atender al alumnado con discapacidad en las aulas. Por ello, es necesario disponer de herramientas pedagógicas que ayuden a desarrollar actitudes positivas, como primer paso para la mejora de las competencias docentes. El objetivo de este artículo es contextualizar, justificar y desarrollar el taller“Conociendo a deportistas con discapacidad intelectual”. El taller se ha justificado desde una propuesta para repensar la teoría del contacto directo en la formación del futuro profesorado.A modo de evaluación preliminar, también se incluyen los datos de la percepción de 118 estudiantes(77 chicas y 41 chicos) de los grados en Maestro en Educación Infantil y Primaria,tras su participación en una de las seis sesiones del taller desarrolladas junto a 42 deportistas con discapacidad intelectual (24 chicos y 18 chicas).
