| Sumario: | Pre-service teacher training is a key element in caring for students with disabilities in the classroom. Therefore, it is necessary to have pedagogical tools that help to develop positive attitudes, as a first step towards improving teaching skills. The objective of this article is to contextualize, justify and explain the workshop "Getting to know athletes with intellectual disabilities". The workshop has been justified as a proposal to rethink the theory of direct contact in the training of pre-service teachers. As a preliminary evaluation, the perception data of 118 students (77 girls and 41 boys) of the degrees in teacher in early childhood and primary education are also included, after their participation in one of the six sessions of the workshop developed together with 42 athletes with intellectual disabilities (24 boys and 18 girls). The results show that future teachers value the usefulness of the workshop for the development of positive attitudes towards disability. It is suggested that this strategy be used as a starting point in broader training programmes, including other strategies aimed at deepening the development and improvement of teaching skills. |
