Resumo:[EN] Local food systems and local agri-food products are defined by their focus on sustainability and reducing the distance between producers and consumers, which increasingly demand for fresh and local food. Its development can be seen in international instruments, such as the Milan Pact of 2015, or in EU policies such as the CAP. Certainly, the CAP in its 2014/2020 and 2023/2027 versions has positively impacted local production and short distribution chains in Spain. Also Spanish regional legislation, such as the Valencian Huerta Law of 2018, protects agricultural land and promotes local and peri-urban agricultural production, addressing the abandonment of farms and promoting the social function of rural land ownership, for the sake of sustainability of rural areas.
