Resumo:In the Valencian region of La Vall d'Albaida there is a set of traditional varieties of tomato and pepper cultivated for generations. The objective of the present work was the morphological and agronomic characterization of a collection of 11 traditional tomato varieties and 4 pepper varieties collected in the villages of Agullent, Bocairent, Fontanars del Alforins and Ontinyent of the said region. The characterization made it possible to show the different varieties of tomato and pepper cultivated. In the case of the tomato, it is remarkable the existence of varieties belonging to the "Valenciana" type, both red and pink, "Rosada Plana" or "Del Pebre" type. Some of these varieties such as "Rosada Plana" or "Valenciana Rosada" d'Agullent stand out for their good taste and meatiness. Some of them also stand out for their productivity (about 5 kg / plant in autumn cycle and about 6 kg / plant in spring-summer cycle). In the case of the pepper, of the 4 varieties tested, 2 have been of the "Pericana" type and the other two of the "Ditet" type, the latter being used as a pickle. It has been remarkable that the characterization of the "Pericana" entrances, a type of pepper very common in the regions of El Comtat, L'Alcoià and La Vall d'Albaida used toast and mixed with other vegetables, has allowed the stablishment of the characteristics that distinguish it from other commercial types like the "Italian" that make it competitive in the market. In this sense the work done has made it possible to typify the traditional tomato and pepper varieties of La Vall d'Albaida. This can be the first step to valorise these products, which can become profitable varieties for farmers in the area.
