Sumario:The present Final Master dissertation is focused on the development of oral expression in the subject of English as foreign language in Compulsory Secondary Education, using debates as the primary methodological tool. In the first place, a review of previous research is presented, which emphasizes the importance of the communicative competence and oral production, as well as the role of debates in the EFL classroom. In the second place, a syllabus proposal for 4th of ESO is shown, consisting of nine teaching units. Throughout these units, the development of students’ speaking skills in EFL is encouraged through the use of debates, according to task-based learning, cooperative learning, and the communicative approach.
