Descripción
Sumario:At present, the Diccionario panhispánico de dudas [DPD] is the main work of reference regarding the establishment of the norm in Spanish. For this reason, the focus on usage is the common thread of this dictionary. However, on several occasions this work makes use of Diachrony as a justifying criterion, especially in the assignment of the grammatical gender of multiple voices. The objective of the present investigation is to analyse the historical references on grammatical gender that the DPD provides in order to show the different uses of Diachrony that are found in this dictionary. Besides, the study underlines the relevance and importance that Diachrony has in this dictionary when determining and establishing the current gender of a given word. In short, this research aims at highlighting the existing relationship between grammatical gender, norm, usage and Diachrony.
