Descripción
Sumario:Studies related to students' socioeconomic and demographic level allow for statistical data to develop projects that benefit undergraduates; However, the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, Esmeraldas Campus (PUCESE) has not carried out studies of this type, so the objective of this study was to know the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of the undergraduate students of our university, that will allow to propose new strategies. In this article the socioeconomic, demographic and university environment characteristics are identified, which allows to segment the university population to project improvements through the planning of policies and strategies. A mixed investigation of descriptive scope was carried out, using a sample of 904 undergraduate students enrolled in the second semester of 2016, to which a structured questionnaire of closed questions was applied, through the digital e-survey tool. The results show that the students are young people between 17 and 20 years of age, mostly female, who identify themselves as mestizos, and of single marital status. The studies are financed by their parents and mostly by loans from financial institutions. The conclusions show that the PUCESE undergraduate students use the bus as a means of transportation to get to the university, that they are mestizos and Afro-Ecuadorians, and their parents finished high school.
