The study contributes to the knowledge of non-verbal elements for the class of Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) in the Costa Rican Context.Este trabajo describe un gesto a partir del conocimiento pragmático de hablantes nativos con el fin de comprender sus usos en la comunicación cara a cara en el habla costarricense. Para el análisis se utiliza la clasificación de gestos de Knapp (1982). Metodológicamente, se recogió información de fuente primaria por medio de un cuestionario semiabierto disponible en línea. Entre los resultados destaca que el gesto se usa en distintos contextos, y aparece en varias categorías con diversas funciones.
