Sumario:This research focuses on the analysis of the levels of mathematical reasoning, according to Van Hiele Model, and the degrees of acquisition obtained by the fifth and sixth grade students of a rural school with multigrade classrooms, in the development of a didactic unit of perimeter and area of quadrilaterals. The methodology of this research is quantitative with qualitative aspect, having a pre- experimental design, and using pre and post-test. This study is based on the premise that has emerged from various studies conducted by Gutiérrez (2009), who point out that in the fifth and sixth basic year courses (with students who are at a level of development and an adequate performance) there is a transition’s period between level 1 and beginnings of level 2 of geometric reasoning, which are the levels considered in this study. This topic has not been investigated with multigrade classroom students yet. The results of the attributes before and after the didactic unit of each student are described, and also, according to their educational level and multigrade course, positive results are observed, generating significant learning in the students, that comes from the geometric reasoning, acquisition levels that match their educational level.
