Sumario:Higher education quality assurance has reached relevance during the last few decades. This emphasis has been translated in the emergence of new external quality assurance systems designed through educational policies in different countries. In Chile, the last Higher Education law N.°21.091 (2018), modifies the existing quality assurance system, requiring to the National Accreditation Commission (NAC) to formulate new accreditation standards and criteria for universities, their degrees, PhD programs, and medical and dental medicine programs. In this context, the present investigation analyzes the effect that the new policy instruments and “external accountability mechanisms” have on the organizational structure of universities, and its internal processes for quality assurance systems.
