| Sumario: | Emerging research evidence from the fields of community development and education point to the evolving role of school principals and underscore the importance of considering school differences, whether in staff, resources, or other contextual factors. From this standpoint and a critical line of research, community-based leadership takes on new relevance. Utilizing a single case study approach, we analyze one principal’s approach to community-based leadership, identifying the discourses, practices, actors, and effects associated with this leadership. Qualitative field research was conducted at a high school located in an urban district of the Metropolitan Region of Chile. The findings show that the community-based leadership and educational project that emanates from it conforms a unique, alternative and, suitable educational framework that generates tension with the educational system, emerging as a dissidence that emphasizes aspects such as the value of public education, comprehensive education and civic formation of the students, the creation of alliances with multiple actors and agents, among other aspects. |
