Sumario:The identity of a subject is constructed in the interaction with the other, in a constant dialogic process. The aim of this work was to address the teaching of Portuguese, mother and non-maternal language, in basic education, in pedagogical practices aimed at building identities in a plural and globalized society. For this study, we opted for a qualitative methodology, through an exploratory research based on a literature review. We discuss the concept of identity in postmodernity, we relate the construction of identities to the existence of a pluricultural and multilingual society, we describe proposals for discursive practices in Portuguese classes that contribute to this construction and, finally, we reflect on them. The studies by Candau (2011, 2016), Hall (2006), Bakhtin (1997) and Rajagopalan (2003), among others, served as a theoretical foundation.
