Summary:This article is the result of partial data from the academic master's thesis that has as its theme special education in the inclusive perspective in specialized institutions and proposes to answer the following problem question: what aspects of the legal documents that underlie Special Education promoted modifications in specialized educational care in specialized institutions? To this end, we highlight as the general objective to analyze the main changes in specialized educational care in specialized institutions from the legal documents of the field of Special Education. The methodology used was the qualitative approach, with the main documents analyzed: Política Nacional de Educação Especial na perspectiva da Educação Inclusiva (2008); Decreto nº 7.611/2011; Lei nº 13.005/2014; Lei nº 13.146/2015 e a Resolução nº 4 (CNE/CEB) – 2009. As a result, it is inferable that specialized institutions have undergone numerous modifications over the years, among these, left the substitute character (schooling) and began to organize the service in a complementary and supplementary way, having this right ensured in the legal documents of the field of Special Education.
