Thus trouxa, a term to refer to a concrete object until the nineteenth century, also refers to a foolish person, or made foolish by others. On Twitter, where the written language has many characteristics of orality, the use of the term to refer to someone silly is very recurrent, with various nominal forms.Objetiva-se analisar o item trouxa da língua portuguesa, que apresenta, atualmente, pelo menos dois significados: o etimológico de embrulho ou carga e o inovador de pessoa boba, fácil de ser ludibriada. O item sofreu um processo de “pejoratização” pelos seus usuários, fenômeno descrito pela Linguística semântica em que a palavra passa a ter uma avaliação negativa. Assim, trouxa, termo para se referir a um objeto concreto até o século XIX, passa a fazer referência também para uma pessoa tola, feita de boba pelos outros.
