A década de 80 do século XX foi considerada, por alguns estudiosos dessa literatura, como uma das mais produtivas, não só pelo aparecimento de novos grupos como também pela institucionalização dessa literatura. Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa é um dos escritores que surge nesse período e publica, em 1987, o livro Ualalapi. O atual trabalho objetiva examinar as formas como o autor construiu e reconstruiu a figura histórica de Ngungunhane, último imperador do reino de Gaza, bem como fez os acontecimentos históricos oscilarem entre a historiografia e a literatura. Objetiva também entender os modos como o autor compõe as narrativas acrescentando elementos próprios da contação de história próprios da tradição oral africana. Esta análise é impetrada através de operadores de leitura ocidentais e africanos articulados, destacando-se o conceito de metaficção historiográfica, da pesquisadora canadense Linda Hutcheon, submetido a diálogo com mecanismos prevalentes de construção discursiva tradicionais africanos, calcados na vertente proverbial e profética que atravessa o texto em articulação com a oralidade apontados por críticos e escritores africanos Lourenço do Rosário, Ana Mafalda Leite e Manuel Rui Monteiro. Em causa, os poderes da linguagem, da palavra e do discurso em estreita correlação da potência da literatura em (re)construir histórias, situações e sujeitos discursivos e históricos, em constante interlocução/interpelação distendida com a historiografia e outras textualidades oficiais, com vistas à implementação de projetos culturais amplos, políticos, éticos e estéticos, de nação, de cultura e de literatura.

The 1980´s of the 20th century was regarded by some scholars of this literature, one of the most productive, not only by the emergence of new groups as well as the institutionalization of this literature. Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa is one of the writers that arises during this period and publishes, in 1987, the book Ualalapi. The current study aims to examine the ways in which the author has built and rebuilt the historical figure of Ngungunhane, last emperor of the kingdom of Gaza, as well as the historical events swinging between the historiography and literature. Aims also to understand the ways in which the author composes the narratives by adding elements of storytelling history characteristic of African oral tradition.
