It then analyses aspects of Portuguese language teaching that permeate the grammars of Beserra (1861), Villeroy (1870), Pacheco e Lameira (1887) and Ribeiro (1889), focusing on the paratexts of these grammars, the authors' biobibliographies and their self-perceptions reflected in the books.O artigo reflete sobre a gramaticografia brasileira oitocentista e sua relação com o ensino de língua portuguesa, a partir de uma perspectiva historiográfica (Koerner, 2014a, 2014b; Swiggers, 2013, 2019, 2020). Primeiramente, apresenta-se um breve panorama da atmosfera intelectual do século 19 na qual se inscreve a produção gramatical brasileira do português.
