Descrição
Resumo:This paper aims to reflect on the relationship between 19th century Brazilian grammaticography and Portuguese language teaching from a historiographical perspective (Koerner, 2014a, 2014b; Swiggers, 2013, 2019, 2020). First, it presents a brief overview of the intellectual atmosphere of the 19th century in which Brazilian Portuguese grammar was produced. It then analyses aspects of Portuguese language teaching that permeate the grammars of Beserra (1861), Villeroy (1870), Pacheco e Lameira (1887) and Ribeiro (1889), focusing on the paratexts of these grammars, the authors' biobibliographies and their self-perceptions reflected in the books.
