Sumario:Objective: to adapt and validate the Portuguese version of the Questionnaire for Assessment of Adherence to Antiretroviral Treatment (CEAT-HIV) for use with people taking HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) in Brazil, to assess the metric properties, and to describe the levels of adherence to PrEP observed in the study sample. Methods: the adaptation consisted of adequation (replacement of some items of the CEAT-HIV to adapt it to check adherence to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (CEAT-PrEP), and modification of the response format in some items, analysis by a committee of experts, semantic analysis, and pre-test. Psychometric validation was performed with 83 individuals. The psychometric properties of the CEAT-PrEP were analyzed by evidences of validity related to relevant external criteria. Reliability and test-retest were analyzed using Cronbach's alpha and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively. Results: after the adaptation process was completed, 83 participants were assessed, aged between 22 and 73, 86.7% men. The instrument's reliability (Cronbach's alpha) was 0.74 (dimensions: compliance with treatment 0.64 and barriers to adherence 0.68). Test-retest (ICC) 0.64 for overall adherence. 61.4% of the sample showed some degree of insufficiency in adherence. The group with higher self-esteem presented fewer barriers to adherence to treatment. Conclusion: the adaptation of the instrument was successful, therefore CEAT-PrEP is recommended for use in research and health services.
