Sumario:This article aims to analyze the main characteristics of the Brazilian production on school principals in the last three decades. Fourty studies were analyzed, in a universe of 691 works on school management, published in the country from 1989 to 2019. The studies were developed by 65 authors, from 37 institutions, mostly in the Southeast region, and dealt with seven central categories. Principals’ selection and training concentrated the largest number of studies. Finally, they used, for the most part, qualitative methodology, focusing on document review and discourse analysis.
