Descripción
Sumario:Italian language has a wide range of variation of its linguistic repertoire, which, as one knows, it is not limited to the simple distinction between language and dialect (or language and dialects). It can be stated that the peculiar history of Italian language produced a true multiplicity of linguistic repertoires, so that there is not a single valid repertoire for all the Italian: even the so-called “standard Italian” (or “neo-standard”) is but one variant among many others that make up the complex architecture of the contemporary Italian. To know the set of these linguistic variants, and to learn how to distinguish and use them in different situational contexts, it is part of the communicative competence of a native speaker or foreigner. The range of variation of the repertoire, therefore, can not be ignored in the teaching and learning process of Italian as a foreign language. This paper aims at proposing a reflection, through principles of Sociolinguistics, on the current perspective of contemporary Italian language and its implications for the teaching of Italian as a foreign language.
