| Sumario: | This paper aims to define what is a sustainable urban environment, focusing initially on general environmental issues as defined by international conventions, tracing the evolution of the concept of sustainability and its relation to development. Furthermore, it proposes an analysis of the environmental and urban factors accountable for cities’ non-sustainability in the beginning of 21st century, in order to understand its causes and indicate possible courses of action. |
