Sumario:Introduction: This study has sought to display the nature and importance of a coach speech therapist in the consulting work in communication, focusing on a business context. Objective: this work intends to identify and describe the profile of professionals, coaches or communication assessors, as well as their perception on some aspects of this practice. Method: qualitative research, developed through semistructured interviews containing nine open-ended questions conducted with five speech therapists operating in this niche, selected through convenience sampling. Results: the consulting work in communication performed by a speech therapist, who has also been through coaching complementary training, lays mainly on expressiveness, a very efficient operator, which encompasses all aspects and abilities involved in an effective interpersonal communication performance, a necessary condition to the success of diverse social experiences. Regarding the corporate context, the consulting work in communication in coaching processes discriminates speech therapists in their interaction with those who place themselves as leaders, according to two fundamental pillars of its original formation, empathy and acknowledgement of singularity
