Resumo:The adoption of unethical practices, as known as scientific misconduct, has detrimental impacts on both the academic and social environments. Therefore, the aim of this article is to discuss the current prevalence of scientific misconduct, explore its treatment in the editorial policies of national scientific journals in the field of Physical Education, and propose strategies to understand and overcome this phenomenon. To support this examination, a comprehensive review of existing studies on scientific misconduct was conducted, allowing for the identification of the temporal occurrence of relevant terms. The term "retraction" appeared as particularly noteworthy due to its close association with scientific misconduct. Additionally, it was seen that scientific misconduct is widespread, particularly in cases involving plagiarism. However, national journals in the field of Physical Education inadequately expound upon their editorial policies concerning this matter, along with the consequences imposed for such transgressions. Based on the findings and ensuing discussions presented in this paper, it is recommended that this issue be extensively deliberated within the academic and scientific community. Moreover, it is crucial for scientific journals to adopt and widely give guidelines about the procedures for handling instances of scientific misconduct.
