Descripción
Sumario:This study verses about the weakening of fricative /v/, in the popular talk of Fortaleza, whose realization occurs, for example on ta[v]a (maintenance) ~ ta[h]a (aspiration) in the context of imperfect indicative of the first conjugation (/ava/). Our goal is to examine, in light of Variationist Sociolinguistics, the effect of linguistic and social factors in the variable realization of fricative /v/ in community of speech of Fortaleza and to ascertain if the phenomenon is in stable variation or if there is evidence of a change in progress. Our sample is constituted of 48 informants of the project Oral Norm the Fortaleza’s Popular Portuguese (NORPOFOR). In the context considered here, 1,816 data were obtained, of which 839 (46.2%) were of aspiration. The variables identified by the GoldVarb X as relevants were (in this order): scholarity, registration frequency of use, age, type of syllable, gender /sex and size of the word. The most relevant linguistic variable (frequency of use) showed that the most common one term, the greater the aspiration /v/. The scholarity, the most important variable of all, is allied of aspirated variant between informants with 0-4 years of schooling, which reinforced the hypothesis phenomenon of stigmatization in this community of speech; the age indicated that the highest rates with the aspirated variant occurred, preferably, in the range of 50 years or more, which pointed to the evidence of a change in progress.
