For this, I present the foundations ofHobbes’ doctrine of causality, as well as its connection with the mechanicalcausal influx of nature, with the aim of showing that: since all thatexists is body, or God must be corporeal and, thus, not be God — i.e.,does not satisfy the demand of self-sufficient sufficient reason —, or Godis not corporeal and, therefore, does not exist.O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar as razões, presentes na filosofia hobbesiana, que nos forçam a concluir que Deus, enquanto razão suficiente que necessita toda a cadeia causal, é incompatível com o sistema mecanicista apresentado por Hobbes em obras como o Do corpo [1655-6] e o Leviatã [1651]. Para isso, apresento os fundamentos da doutrina da causalidade hobbesiana, bem como sua vinculação com o influxo causal mecânico da natureza, com o objetivo de mostrar que: uma vez que tudo o que há é corpo, ou Deus deve ser corpóreo e, portanto, não ser Deus – i.e., não satisfaz a exigência de uma razão suficiente autossuficiente –, ou Deus não é corpo e, portanto, não existe.Universidade de São Paulo.
