Sumario:This article discusses whether the Discussion XVII of the Tahafut al-falasifa can provide elements of a ghazalian notion of causality despite the eminently disputative nature of the work. The article suggests a reading of the text in which al-Ghazali, when considering there are two alternative systems explaining causality in the world (that of philosophers and that incorporating a strong notion of divine will), both of them undemonstrated, would argue that divine participation in the relationship between cause and effect would be preferable to a strict or mitigated necessitarianism of the philosophers due to the possibility of the miracle.
