| Sumario: | Since the emergence of Netflix in Spain in 2015, subscription video on demand (SVOD) services have solidified their position as dominant references for consuming fiction (TV series and movies). However, in recent seasons, they have also begun to incorporate entertainment formats. This is a macro-genre that has traditionally been distinct from open-air television channels, alongside news programs and special broadcasts. This research analyzes the entertainment titles released on SVOD services in Spain during the 2021-2022 season, identifying their characteristics, similarities, and differences compared to productions of the same genre on open-air TV. The findings demonstrate that entertainment has become entrenched in the catalogs of SVOD services in Spain, and these formats resemble those already aired on open-air TV. This reveals the strategy of transnational operators to compete with traditional television programming in their respective territories. |
