Sumario:Work accidents involve significant costs in society that are not necessarily reflected in monetary transactions. This article presents a descriptive analysis and variables related to the occupational accidents occurred and methods for the assessment of the costs of the same using data from the city of Cartagena-Colombia during the period 2009 - 2012. The results show that in Cartagena due to accident rates, insurance companies incur an approximate cost of 11 million dollars and that the hidden costs associated with the loss of production and allocation to the worker, amount to 44 million dollars.
