Descripción
Sumario:Are lynchings of criminals effective in reducing crime? This research evaluates the impact of mob justice on the frequency of crime reporting in 2017 at the district level in Peru. Difference-in-difference (DiD) and regression discontinuity (RD) models were estimated for count data in a longitudinal database. Evidence indicates that at the district level there is no impact of mob justice on the occurrence of crime reports in the range of 3, 7, 14, 14, 30 and 60 days before and after the lynching.
