The study reviews the state of the paramo and links ecological conservation to the organizational structure of communities in the Piura highlands. The study aims to provide elements for the development of a sustainable management of the paramo ecosystem in the Pacaipampa, Alto de Frías, and Huancabamba paramos, in the Piura department, Peru. It is concluded that the paramo is a human-influenced ecosystem that, despite facing strong livestock pressure, can achieve sustainable development for local communities by linking its conservation through proper grazing management with the rest of the Piura region, allowing for its preservation.El páramo es un ecosistema cuya importancia radica en la conservación y acumulación de agua y carbono. Su deterioro repercute en el aumento de emisiones y disminuye la recarga de acuíferos. A pesar de ello, este ecosistema afronta en el Perú gran presión, en especial debido al sobrepastoreo. El estudio revisa el estado del páramo y enlaza la conservación ecológica a la forma de organización de las comunidades en la sierra de Piura. El estudio busca aportar elementos para el desarrollo de un manejo sostenible del ecosistema del páramo de los páramos de Pacaipampa, Frías y Huancabamba, en el departamento de Piura, Perú. Se concluye que el páramo es un ecosistema antrópico que, si bien sufre una fuerte presión ganadera, enlazando su conservación mediante una gestión adecuada del pastoreo con el resto de la región Piura, puede lograr el desarrollo sostenible de las comunidades locales, lo que permitiría su conservación.Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
