The theoretical perspective of language in use seeks to address the contextualized school contents, and SMS fulfill this function and work as microcontents. The evaluation of attitudes, linguistic resources and uses associated to electronic writing promotes a critical insight by students about their communicative strategies and skills, especially as regards facework elaboration. By conducting social habits tests, we explored the speakers’ use of and perceptions about digital writing in mobile phones. It was evident that students identify certain linguistic features as sociolinguistic markers, and that the use of normative writing promotes both positive self-perception and positive facework.La escritura digital ocurre en el entramado de relaciones entre niveles de competencia comunicativa, de literacidad digital, o competencias tecnológicas de los interactuantes, y de las características de la(s) plataforma(s). La perspectiva de la lengua en uso propone abordar los contenidos escolares contextualizados: los SMS responden a esta premisa y se configuran como microcontenidos. Revisar actitudes, recursos lingüísticos y usos asociados a la escritura digital es propicio para enseñar a los estudiantes estrategias y habilidades comunicativas, además de favorecer una reflexión crítica sobre sus prácticas y, particularmente, sobre cuestiones de labor de imagen. A partir de la implementación de test de hábitos sociales, indagamos acerca del uso y la percepción de los hablantes en relación con la escritura digital a través de teléfonos móviles.
