Descripción
Sumario:This article advances two different readings of Colección de poesías mejicanas, published in 1836 in Paris. First, it focuses on the editor and anthologist of this volume. Although his name does not appear anywhere in the book and library catalogs do not index it as such, it is commonplace to identify José María Luis Mora as the editor of this Colección. However, both the text and some personal letters suggest that the true anthologist was in fact José Bernardo Couto, while Mora only had a minor role as an publisher. Secondly, based on the discovery of identical handwritten marginalia in the copies of the Fondo José Luis Martínez and the Biblioteca Andrés Henestrosa, this article speculates on the origin of said annotations in pencil. The evidence suggests that, after the rise of liberal subjectivity and that of the signature in the text as the foundation of the reading pact, a possible bookseller in Puebla during made an effort to clear up the anonymity of the poems he thought hehad recognized.
